3 Reasons Why Porchetta Is The Best Street Food In Italy

The very first time you bite into a Porchetta Sandwich on the streets of Italy...Your life will never be the same!

Here are 3 Reasons Why a Porchetta Sandwich is a Reigning Caesar of Italian Street Food.

1.  The Obvious:  On the Street.

It's true Italy is a master of cuisine:  3 Michelin Star Luxury places to Your Grandmother's Sunday afternoon red sauce down to Street Food.  All of these places have their own order and their own greatness....but I want to talk about Street Food.

Street Food is the glorious side of Italy's eatery where you can literally grab a bite to eat while just walking down the avenue during your vacation, walk to work, or haircut--whatever and whenever.  The Street Food operations know exactly where to set up there food trucks for the maximum flow of foot traffic--this is great for people because they don't have to go out of their way to eat.

It all breaks down to this.  You are walking around Rome or anywhere and you get hungry.  Just to your left there is a food trunk set up and there is not a big line because the lines go fast.  The porchetta sandwich is sliced and given to you in paper...BOOM.  You continue on enjoying your day, but now you have your meal.  --It's faster than a drive through.  One of the best things is that the porchetta isn't expensive....you get your food quickly, it's inexpensive, and it tastes GREAT!

2.  WHY is Porchetta SOOO Tasty, Anyway?   Glad You Asked!

First, let me just explain WHAT porchetta is, how it's made...then you will be dying to try one!

Porchetta [porˈketta] is a savoury, fatty, and moist boneless pork roast of Italian culinary tradition. The carcass is deboned, arranged carefully stuffed with liver, wild fennel, all fat and skin still on spitted, and/or roasted, traditionally over wood for 8+ hours. Porchetta is usually heavily salted in addition to being stuffed with garlicrosemaryfennel, or other herbs, often wild. Porchetta has been selected by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy as a prodotto agroalimentare tradizionale (“traditional agricultural-food product”, one of a list of traditional Italian foods held to have cultural relevance).

So sum that...it's wonderful pork, slow cooked for 8-12 hours, and left to slowly cool as it is being served.  To give you a better view of it, I decided to insert a YT video (however, this guy uses gas which cuts the cook time down):

** Careful!  This Video will make you Hungry!

Now just imagine this packed onto some wonderful, fresh Italian bread.  For a sandwich....it's doesn't get any better!

3.  Italy in a Sandwich.

Porchetta is an Italian masterpiece!  It is the ultimate sandwich because it brings to life what food should taste like.  If you have only fresh ingredients and you take the time to prepare the food and then have the patience to let this beauty cook...everybody who eats it will love it....even vegans!  --Try it out...don't tell them it's pork, AFTER they try it and lose their minds...well, then you can tell them if you want.

The main ingredient of the Porchetta Sandwich is quality.  Quality of food is something you just can't get if you try to mass-produce a replica.  Porchetta is the Best Street Food because it delivers the best quality sandwich to you when you can get the sandwich on the go!
