The 3 Types Of Best Places To Stay In Italy While Traveling--Part 1 of 3

Highlighting the 3 BEST TYPES of Places to Stay in Italy is Amazingly Easy!  (Part 1 of 3)

If you are traveling as a single person, a couple, a family, or as a large group--this post will help you with your decisions!  Happy to Help!

1.  Large Hotels.

Some Best Places to Stay in Italy

Personally, I believe major hotel chains in Italy are money pits for people who want to travel and see Italy.  However, to each his own and we will cover benefits of large chain hotels right now.

Large chain hotels like "Hilton" and any other major hotel which pops into your mind offer familiarity.  That whole "I am in a place where I recognize" thought gives travelers who maybe are in Italy for their first time the piece of mind knowing that they are seeing Italy--but are "protected".  Hotels offer all the luxury amenities that you think should come with rooms costing hundreds of dollars a night:

  • Doorman to Greet You
  • Room Service
  • Taxis, Limos, even Helicopters (Yes, helicopters)
  • Ironed Shirts and Shined Shoes

When traveling to Italy, and especially in a major city like Rome, Venice, Milan, etc the big swanky hotels are designed with YOUR trip, business, and money in mind from the very beginning!  So Yes, they compete on luxury for your business--even down to providing you info for everything.

If you are planning your very first trip to Italy, a known hotel chain in the big city might be a good idea, because after all....you really want to see some culture.  You don't want to drive around the city trying to find everything, so...1st trip maybe a big hotel is for you.

2.  Small, Family Owned Hotels

Small, family owned hotels are (my personal opinion) the absolute best places to stay in Italy.

I stayed in a wonderful, family owned hotel in Ripatransone, Italy (Le Marche Region on the Adriatic Sea) These smaller hotels focus on quality because their family name is at stake if you have a horrible time with the hotel---when Momma Luigi ain't happy, nobody is happy!

Family run hotels offer meals differently than the big guys.  It is very common to have breakfast AND Lunch or Dining included in your room price.  THIS IS ACTUALLY A GOOD THING!!  Obviously, we are used to breakfast, but if you are tired from a day of sightseeing....well you already have dinner planned out!  If you want to see Italy at night--you have lunch figured out!

Better than the food the room will make you feel like you are spending the night with your dear old grandmother--Italian grandmother that is.  These little hotels offer the same thing the bigger guys offer, yet just on the smaller scale.  Most of the family owned hotels bring the greatest views out of the windows because they are outside the downtown areas, but still located inside the city limits.

Staying at the "mom & pop" hotel leaves wonderful lasting impressions of your trip to Italy.  The people running/working at the hotel truly are interested in you, where you are from, occupation, etc.  There are not being noisy or trying to be rude, but by learning just a little bit about you, they can give you insight as to different and new places to visit/see during your stay.  Most Italians are friendly which can be very comforting when staying in a small hotel.

Sum It Up!

Wrapping it up with a nice pretty bow means this:  if you are not completely comfortable with the thought of rubbing elbows with local Italians....the big hotel might be for you.  However, if you are travel savy and really want to enjoy the homeslice of Italy...the family owned hotel route might be your best option of the two.

Either way I am sure you will love your time in Italy.  Here is the travel guru Rick Steve's Amazon Book for traveling (hotels) in Italy to check out!
